We are seeking a UX Designer with an expertise in user research. In this role, the UX Researcher brings a deeper knowledge of methods and practices, effectively communicates research findings to internal stakeholders, facilitates discovery workshops, and works closely with project managers, other UX designers and developers to ensure that customer needs are being met. We are also looking for someone who is passionate about developing digital services for large federal and state government agencies, and the people they serve.

Our team is almost entirely distributed (remote) across the US and Canada. For this position, you can normally work from home or find a great co-working space, although occasional on-site visits and working sessions with clients will be necessary. You will need a computer, webcam, strong internet connection and the ability to keep a Monday to Friday schedule because we are a truly collaborative team. Ideally your timezone will be within the continental United States.

What you’ll do
-Apply a service design mindset to challenges with a relentless focus on user needs
-Work collaboratively with clients and team members in a remote work environment with potential for some on-site travel
-Determine the right tool and method for helping to uncover insights about internal and/or end users
-Facilitate discovery workshops with government agencies to help them prioritize and create focus for what user problems to tackle first
-Design and specify user interfaces, workflows and form information architecture
-Be able to effectively communicate and synthesize research findings through personas, storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts and design prototypes.
-Plan and facilitate collaborative critiques and analysis & synthesis working sessions
-Work closely with visual designers and development teams to ensure that customer goals are met and design specifications are delivered upon
What we expect you to bring
-3 – 5 years experience in practicing qualitative user research methods (understanding and practice of quantitative methods are a plus!)
-Have used a combination of human-centered design, lean and agile methodologies
-Experience successfully shipping working software
-Experience working in diverse teams and knows how to both leverage the strengths of each team member (project management, engineering, SMEs etc.), as well as knows how to lend support.
-Experience working with complex stakeholder relationships
-Success in leading complex client engagements that have required strong conflict management skills.
